Second half

According to the Wikipedia, "Half-time"is the name given to the interval between the two halves of a match. Recently I heard this term from one of my co-workers. Actually he is not a member ofmydepartment -- he isa gynecologist andtwo years my senior.When he mentioned it, referring to my job change, I recalledone of my best friends. She is the friend who I mentionedin my previous journal entries.Finally I was able to talk with her on the phone last Monday. My speculation was not wrong. She explained her recent decision to stay inTorontovery calmly. Her tone of voice was not happy at all, but sounded rather depressed...She said that she will start a new job as an assistant professorat the University of Toronto hospitalthis coming September and that sheis applying for permanent residence in Canada.She said it seemed like herdestiny.Ifelt her mixed feelings through the phone. I am not sure what kind of decision I would make,if I were in her position. Icould guesswhat caused her to make up her mind and Ijust imagine some complex situations will unfold, which will affect her marriage life. Anyway, Icelebrated her promotion and wished her luck. Now, she has just finished her half-time and she will launch the second half of her life in afaraway land. The senior told me that I seem to have reachedthe half-time of my life, too.
